World NGO Day

World NGO Day is an international calendar day annually observed on 27 February with aim to inspire people to become more actively involved within NGOs and encourage a greater symbiosis between NGOs and both the public and private sector. The universal concept of the World NGO Day is Celebrate, Commemorate and Collaborate the various NGOs around the world, and the people behind them.

International secretariat of “World NGO Day” announced Mr. Zafar Iqbal, Founder of “THE NGO WORLD” as Honorary Goodwill Ambassador to the “World NGO Day” in Pakistan. He took the opportunity to celebrate the day for the first time ever in Pakistan in 2014. Since then every year different events have been organized every year with purpose to provide a platform for the Social/NGO Sector of Pakistan to network and learn for the greater good.

On this The NGO World organize four main events;

  1. Conference “Social Good Pakistan”. Qualified and seasoned speakers, trainers, activists and researchers from NGOs and Government departments threw light on the theme of the event with the purpose of knowledge sharing of the sector ultimately contributing towards social good.
  2. Exhibition of Innovative Projects by NGOs: On the day of NGOs, THE NGO WORLD provided opportunity to Non-Governmental Organizations to showcase their exceptional work. Exhibitors displayed their Brochures, Models, Pictures, Banners, Posters, Flyers, Equipment, Books and other related material etc. A big number of community visited stalls established by NGOs coming from different parts of Pakistan.
  3. Seminar on UN-Sustainable Development Goals – The Role of NGOs: The event provided opportunity to; understand the global landscape of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and what that means for NGOs working on the local level? How the non-profit sector is implementing the SDGs as part of their core existing programmatic areas?

SWERA Awards (Social Work Encouragement Recognition & Appreciation): On the day of NGOs awards are given to social workers to celebrate their valuable work for humanity.

NGO’s representatives, UN Agencies, Institutions, Certification bodies, Govt. departments, CSR, Consulting firms, Founders, Directors, Managers, Field Workers, Philanthropists, Researchers, Students, Youth and Women representatives from all over the Pakistan participate in World NGO Day celebration events.

Goodwill Ambassador of the World NGO Day in Pakistan Mr. Zafar Iqbal has been organizing events of celebration since 2014. Through these events he has provided an effective platform to a big number of NGOs and NGO workers to strengthen networking and knowledge sharing.
His continuous efforts have been acknowledged at international level and awarded an international honorary medal on the World NGO Day 2020, in recognition of his outstanding work in the civil society and NGO sector.
