The NGO World Foundation proudly participated in the First National Social Work Convention of Pakistan, held from July 17–20, 2025, at the serene Baragali Summer Camp of the University of Peshawar. This landmark event brought together students, faculty members, and professional social workers from across the country, making it the largest-ever gathering of its kind in Pakistan.
The convention provided a much-needed retreat from the July heat into the cool, lush-green hills of Baragali, allowing participants to focus their attention on strengthening the Social Work profession and shaping more effective responses to Pakistan’s pressing social challenges.
Representing The NGO World Foundation, Mr. Javaid Iqbal, Manager Partnerships, actively participated in the sessions and was nominated as a member of the National Advisory Committee of the newly formed National Social Work Association of Pakistan—a significant outcome of the convention. This national body will work to bridge the gap between academics and practitioners for a more impactful future.
The convention was honored by the presence of esteemed academic leaders, including Dr. Mumtaz Ali, Vice Chancellor, University of Makran (President of the new association), Dr. Asif Ranjha, Head of Social Work Department, Islamia University Bahawalpur (Vice President), and Dr. Uzma, Chairperson, Department of Social Work, University of the Punjab.
The Chairman of The NGO World, Mr. Zafar Iqbal, graced the closing ceremony, where he was presented with an honorary shield by Dr. Mumtaz Ali. In his remarks, Mr. Iqbal appreciated the organizers for hosting this milestone gathering and reaffirmed The NGO World’s commitment to standing with academia and professionals in advancing social work and social justice in Pakistan.
This convention not only served as a platform for collaboration and capacity building but also marked a new era of synergy between NGOs and academic institutions.
